Água Viva – Primary Thought is a series of artist's books developed during the M.A.L.A. 2026 residency program.

Excerpts from the Brazilian edition of the book *Água Viva* by Clarice Lispector were translated into English, Spanish, and French by the artist. Monotypes, transfers, and the excerpts—hand-painted with acrylic paint on both sides of 52 crumpled sheets of 6” x 8.5” tracing paper—were assembled into four hand-bound volumes. I understand this "wandering through the world" as a state of being in the present, much like Clarice Lispector in *Água Viva*. I respond to the narrator by assuming the role of the "you"; I seek to relinquish control to make room for an encounter with place and with the other, thereby allowing the "I" to dissolve and reconstitute itself.

The acrylic plates used to produce the monotypes for the artist's books in the *Água Viva – pensamento primário* series—bearing their residual ink—are assembled in an accordion-fold structure to form the new series *Água Viva – o desconhecido*.
