pacaembu book fair 2025
In June, with our work more developed, we participated in the Pacaembu Book Fair in São Paulo. We offered open workshops on bookbinding and graphic experimentation for adults and children, and in return, we received an exhibition table where we presented our processes, still in their initial stages. A rare opportunity to show the book before the book, the gesture before the form.
M.A.L.A.'s presence extended beyond the table: we organized and conducted educational workshops that reached approximately 400 people, mostly students from public schools. Each participant left with their own small, hand-sewn book dos à dos, with colorful covers, stamps and graphic designs — a small notebook to keep future stories.
We relied on partners who were fundamental to this experience: Paula de Freitas, from Infantofaz, who brought her experience with mediation and childhood; Matheus Gonçalves, from Blocco Storico, who contributed with his perspective on graphic processes and active participation in the workshops; and Helder Kawabata, from costuradus, who assisted in conducting the bookbinding and in engaging with visitors. Together, we broadened the reach of the workshops and strengthened the sharing aspect of M.A.L.A.
