Mini Bio
Janine Michel is an architect based in Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. She transforms drawings, woodcuts, and paper cuttings into books. Since 2019, she has been producing woodcuts at the Atelier Livre Municipal de Porto Alegre and is currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in Illustrated Book Creation at Casa Tombada, São Paulo.
FLORESTA PERDIDA (LOST FOREST)
The book is a symbolic account of the Atlantic crossings and the disappearance of Brazilian forests. It is composed of three books — 1500, 1816, and 2025 — which represent the Atlantic Forest through cutouts of shadows photographed in a remnant woodland area in southern Brazil.
Lost Forest is an invitation to contemplation and reflection: on what was once seen, what was taken, and what remains — in the landscape, in art, and in memory.
