ATRAVESSA! (CROSSING!)
The work was based on the artist's research on literary geography in João Guimarães Rosa's book Grande sertão: veredas (1956). It addresses the duality found in the narrative, revealed by the opposition between concepts such as good and evil or aridity and wetness, which reflects the complexity of human experience and the diverse nature of the wilderness. Handling the book allows the unfolding and flowing of two distinct rivers, while the arid ground crosses them.
ATRAVESSA! (TWO RIVERS)
The work was based on the artist's research on literary geography in João Guimarães Rosa's book Grande sertão: veredas (1956). The dos-a-dos format symbolically represents two important rivers in the narrative: the São Francisco and the Urucúia, which present diverse and contrasting characteristics, both physical and poetic. The embroidery threads emerge from the book's core and overflow through the spines and the arid wilderness depicted on the cover.
