M.A.L.A at the 5th Mário de Andrade Festival with a Bookbinding Workshop
The largest public library in São Paulo, the Mário de Andrade Library, will turn 100 years old in 2025 and celebrates the occasion with the 5th edition of the Mário de Andrade Festival. The three-day event offers a free program featuring a book fair, literary talks, workshops, theater, and music. M.A.L.A will take part in this celebration by hosting a bookbinding workshop on October 25 and 26.
In this activity, the participant will learn how to bind from the to the In this activity, participants will learn the dos-à-dos flexible cover binding, experimenting with graphic compositions using the pochoir technique. Afterwards, we’ll move on to folding and pamphlet stitching, resulting in a structure that provides a unique handling experience and an unusual perspective on what a book can be.
Open to young people and adults, the workshop welcomes book lovers, bookbinding enthusiasts, paper art admirers, and anyone curious to explore new forms of creative expression. The goal is to playfully explore the possibilities of handmade bookbinding, encouraging creativity and dialogue between form and content.
The activity is happening on the 25th and 26th of October, from 10 to 14, and will be carried out by the residents of the M. A. L., Andrea Thomazella- conheça seu trabalho and Yet the mdc – conheça seu trabalho . In the workshop, and all of the activities at the V Festival in Mário de Andrade's are free!
